What to Bring With You
These lists should only be used as a guide.
If you are being admitted as an in-patient (staying at least one night in hospital):
- Any medicines or tablets you are taking (in their original boxes or containers),including homeopathic medicines, vitamins and herbal remedies so staff know what you are taking
- Any relevant x-rays still in your possession
- Pyjamas or a nightdress
- Dressing gown and slippers
- Daywear – tracksuit or comfortable clothes
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Soap and deodorant
- Hairbrush or comb and small mirror
- Shaving equipment (if appropriate)
- Sanitary products such as tampons (if appropriate)
- A book or magazines
- Spectacles and hearing-aid batteries, if you need them
- Small change for newspapers or the bedside TV and phone
- Underwear
- Bath towel, flannel or sponge and wet-wipes
- Tissues
- Bottle of squash (if wanted)
- Any walking aids you may already have (frame, stick, crutches) if you need them
If you are being admitted as a day-case procedure (going home after surgery on the same day):
- Any drugs and medicines you are currently taking in their original container
- Any relevant x-rays still in your possession
- Nightwear and personal toiletries are optional although slippers are advised
Please don’t bring:
- Large amounts of money or credit cards
- Valuables such as jewellery
- A TV or radio
- Alcohol
- A hairdryer
